Fall Outdoor 2017 Coaches FAQ

Thank you for your interest in coaching!

3 key coaching "to-do's" for the season

#1 - Register to coach:

#2 - Choose the team you want to coach (click here):
  • Please note that you are committing to coach the majority of your team's practices/games
  • If you are unable to coach a practice/game, you must arrange for a qualified replacement coach (and communicate that coach's info in advance to the Vipers youth director, Marty Drybread ( , 970-214-4679)

#3 - Email your team ASAP once rosters are set:
  • Once you've been assigned to a team and your roster has been set, you'll be able to login to your team's webpage and send team emails:
  • Introduce yourself and cover important points for the season (practice dates/locations, team expectations, etc)
  • Early (and frequent) communication is vital for ensuring happy parents!

Rosters:
  • Rosters will be set after the first practice
  • The teams are intended to be equal in skill/experience to ensure competitively balanced games

Gameplay/rules:
  • Games will be 7v7 (with offsides) on a small field:
    • If teams are short on players, game format can change to 4v4 (no offsides) or similar
  • If you don't have a goalie (or a goalie volunteer), you may use a shot blocker as your goalie:
    • When using a shot blocker, any player - offense or defense - may go into the crease to retrieve a groundball (offense must make 1 pass before taking a shot if they go into the crease to get a groundball)
  • When going from defense to offense, at least 1 pass attempt must be made before taking a shot
  • Competition control (if one team is ahead by 5 points or more):
    • Option one:
      • Losing team has option to start with the ball at midfield after a goal is scored (no faceoff), and...
      • Winning team must play man down (minus one midfielder)
    • Option two:
      • Adjust rosters so teams are even (both coaches must agree)
    • Option three:
      • Other ideas coaches agree to
  • CYLA rules will generally apply

Referees:
  • Do not EVER disrespect an official or allow a player or parent to do so:
    • Remove yourself, the player, or the parent from the game if you/they are unable to control themselves
  • Our officials are doing their best - please support them, especially when they make a mistake!

Equipment:
  • Teams will be provided with pinnies, balls, ball bags, cones, shot blocker, etc
  • If your goalie doesn't have goalie gear, we'll provide a goalie stick, chest protector, and throat guard

Coaching stipends:
  • Number of coaches/team:
    • 1 head coach
  • Coaching stipends:
